Regiospecifically deuterated (−)-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabivarins

Abstract

Deuterated (−)-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabivarins (Δ9-THCVs) can be used as markers for confirming the illicit use of marijuana. Here, we first describe an efficient synthesis of side chain deuterated Δ9-THCVs from the respective 5-propylresorcinols specifically deuterated at the side chain. Our approach involved the development of optimal, high yield methods for the introduction of deuterium at the C-3′ and C-2′ position of the side chain.
