Abstract
Two one-dimensional hexaaza macrocyclic coordination polymers with the formulae [CuL]n(ClO4)2n and [NiL]n(ClO4)2n, where L = 3,10-bis(2-propionitrilo)-1,3,5,8,10,12-hexaazacyclotetradecane, have been synthesized, and characterized by elemental analyses and single-crystal X-ray analyses. In both polymers, each Cu(II) or Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated with four nitrogen atoms of the macrocycle and two nitrogen atoms of the propionitrile pendant groups from neighboring macrocycles. In [CuL]n(ClO4)2n, the coordination geometry of the copper atom is an elongated octahedron with four macrocyclic nitrogen atoms in the equatorial plane (Cu–N = 2.022(3) Å) and two propionitrile nitrogen atoms in the axial positions (Cu–N = 2.513(3) Å).
