Encapsulation of half-sandwich complexes of molybdenum with β-cyclodextrin

Abstract

β-Cyclodextrin formed stable, crystalline 1∶1 host∶guest inclusion compounds, in high yields, with half-sandwich complexes of molybdenum of the type MoCp′(η3-C3H5)(CO)2 (Cp′ = Cp, C5H4SiMe3 or C9H7). The products have been characterised in the solid state by elemental analysis, FTIR spectroscopy, TGA, powder X-ray diffraction and 13C MAS NMR spectroscopy. Channel-type structures were formed with Cp′ = Cp and C9H7, while with Cp′ = C5H4SiMe3 the arrangement of the cyclodextrin molecules was more similar to that of pristine β-cyclodextrin hydrate.
