Reactivity of chiral diiminodiphosphine ligands towards PdCl2(PhCN)2: synthesis and crystal structures of two unexpected dinuclear palladium(II) complexes

Abstract

The interaction of PdCl2(PhCN)2 with (S )-N,N ′-bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)benzylidene]-2,2′-diimino-1,1′-binaphthylene (S )-L1 and (S,S ′)-N,N ′-bis[2-(diphenylphosphino)-benzylidene]-1,2-diimino-1,2-diphenylethane (S,S ′)-L2 gave the dimeric complex {PdCl[2-(Ph2P)C6H4CH[double bond, length half m-dash]N]}21 and the dinuclear complex {cis-PdCl2[2-(Ph2P)C6H4CH[double bond, length half m-dash] NCH(Ph)CH(C6H4PPh2-2)[double bond, length half m-dash]NC6H4(PPh2)-2]PdCl}{Cl} 2, respectively, whose structures were ascertained by X-ray crystallography.
