Oxidation reactions of Ti(a3FJ, a5FJ) atoms with O2, NO and N2O by crossed beams
Abstract
The reactions of 3d24s2 (a3FJ) ground-state and 3d34s (a5FJ) metastable Ti atoms with NO, O2 and N2O molecules have been studied in the kinetic energy domain 10–280 meV with a pulsed, crossed-beam apparatus. Characterization of Ti reactant and TiO product has been performed through detection of laser-induced fluorescence or chemiluminescence. The reactions from ground-state atoms show kinetic energy thresholds at 110, 20 and 190 meV with O2, NO and N2O respectively, whereas the reactions from metastable-state atoms with O2 and N2O show decreasing cross sections with kinetic energy. These data are in agreement with previous kinetic measurements.
