Thiophene S-binding of a conformationally constrained thiophenophane leading to the formation of a copper(i) coordination polymer

Abstract

The potentially tetradentate NS3 thiophenophane binds strongly to Cu(I) through a thiophene S, pyridine N and one thioether S, leaving the remaining thioether S donor in an exodentate arrangement forming an infinite polymeric link between Cu(I) atoms.
