Tetraorganodistannoxanes: formation of a novel cis-ladder†

Abstract

Reaction of the acetylenic-bridged ditin precursor [Me3-SiCH2(Cl2)SnCH2(Me2)Si]2C2 1 with the oxygen source (But2SnO)3 results exclusively in formation of the dimeric tetraorganodistannoxane {[Me3SiCH2(Cl)SnCH2(Me2)SiC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CSi(Me2)CH2Sn(Cl)CH2SiMe3]O}2 2 which has the hitherto unknown cis-configuration; this is retained during the quantitative conversion of 2 into the hydroxy-substituted analogue {[Me3SiCH2(OH)SnCH2(Me2)SiC[triple bond, length half m-dash]CSi(Me2)-CH2Sn(Cl)CH2SiMe3]O}2 3.
