The effect of temperature and the composition of non-associating binary solvent mixtures on solute selectivity in liquid chromatography
Abstract
In the separation of closely eluting enantiomers, it is likely that there will be an operating temperature where the separation ratio of the isomers becomes independent of the solvent composition. This possibility is confirmed both theoretically and experimentally. It is also shown that solvent composition independence can occur in the normal operating temperature range of the liquid chromatograph. It follows that when exploring the effect of solvent composition on enantiomer separations, it is extremely important to ascertain that the operating temperature is well away from that where changes in solvent composition will not be effective.
