Langmuir–Blodgett films of poly(N-vinyl-N′-alkylimidazolium bromide)s

Abstract

Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) multilayers were prepared from poly(N-vinyl-N′-alkylimidazolium bromide)s synthesised using long-chain alkyl bromides. In X-ray reflection experiments the best multilayers displayed five orders of Bragg peaks. The derived bilayer spacings and an FTIR study of selected films indicate that these LB multilayers have Y-type structures in which the long alkyl side chains interdigitate.
