A µ-hydroxy-µ-nitritodicopper(II) core embedded in a AgNO2 matrix: synthesis, structure and magnetism

Abstract

The copper complex [L2Cu2(µ-NO2)(µ-OH)Ag2(NO2)4] (L = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography and from temperature-dependent susceptibility measurements which established a fairly strong, intramolecular, antiferromagnetic exchange coupling (J = –193 cm–1, H = –2JS1·S2, S1 = S2 = 1/2) and the 1,2-co-ordination mode of the nitrito bridge to be an extremely good mediator of spin coupling.
