The first example of a double bridged diruthenium(II) complex containing the rare bridging S,O bidentate dimethyl sulfoxide ligand which defines a stable [upper bond 1 start]Ru–Cl–Ru–S–O[upper bond 1 end] five-membered ring

Abstract

The diruthenium(II) complex [Ru2(µ-Cl)(µ-Me2SO-S,O)Cl3(Me2SO-S )3(CO)2] has been synthesized from cis, fac-[RuCl2(Me2SO)3(CO)] in refluxing acetone and characterized by X-ray crystallography; unusual solution (1H and 13C NMR) and solid-state (IR) spectral features were found for the bridging sulfoxide, besides a remarkable inertness towards substitution reactions.
