Synthesis and molecular structure of Bi4Ba44-O)23-OEt)8(µ-OEt)42-thd)4 (Hthd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione). An example of the formulation of a mixed-metal alkoxide assisted by dioxygen

Abstract

The reaction between bismuth ethoxide and [Ba(thd)2]4 (Hthd = 2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-dione) afforded the octanuclear Bi4Ba44-O)23-OEt)8(µ-OEt)42-thd)4 species in high yield, the structure being determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction; the formation of this species was precluded in anaerobic media.
