Reaction of S-nitrosothiols with ascorbate: clear evidence of two reactions

Abstract

Ascorbate reacts with S-nitrosothiols at pH 7.4 via two pathways, in which ascorbate (at low concentration) acts as a reducing agent generating CuI, and (at high concentration) acts as a nucleophile, attacking the nitroso group.
