First complexes with cuboidal-type M 4Te 4 (M = Mo, W) cluster cores: synthesis and structure of K 7[Mo 43-Te) 4(CN) 12]·11H 2O and K 6[W 43-Te) 4(CN) 12]·5H 2O

Abstract

High-temperature reactions of Mo 3Te 7I 4 or WTe 2 with KCN at 450 °C produce M 4Te 4 cubane-type complexes, isolated here as K 7[Mo 43-Te) 4(CN) 12]·11H 2O and K 6[W 43-Te) 4(CN) 12]·5H 2O in high yields, and characterized by X-ray crystallography.
