Reaction/diffusion at conducting polymer ultramicroelectrodes†

Abstract

The theoretical analysis of the steady state amperometric response for a conducting polymer microelectrode is discussed. The coupled processes of first order chemical reaction and substrate diffusion within the polymer film are examined. The pertinent reaction/diffusion equation is developed and analytical solutions for the substrate concentration profile and current response are derived for cases in which substrate diffusion in the adjacent solution is neglected and considered.
