Application of PdII-catalysed oxidative cyclisation of hydroxy(vinyl)furan: synthesis of (5R)-diastereomer of (+)-goniofufurone

Abstract

A convenient synthesis of the (5R)-diastereomer of (+)-goniofufurone 5 from D-mannose has been completed. A key step is the intramolecular PdCl2-catalysed oxidative cyclisation of hydroxy(vinyl)furan 6 to lactol 16.
