Thermodynamic study of the binary mixture trichloromethane–1,2-epoxybutane

Abstract

A previously reported ‘chemical’ model proposes that most strongly non-ideal binary mixtures can be described as consisting of both simple chemical species and their associates. FTIR spectroscopy indicates that the title mixture can be considered to consist mainly of CHCl 3 , C 4 H 8 O, CHCl 3 ·C 4 H 8 O, and (CHCl 3 ) 2 . Comparison between experimental excess enthalpies and those calculated using the model indicates that such a composition provides a viable description of the mixture.
