Synthesis of novel ruthenium complexes containing bidentate imidazole-based ligands

Abstract

Ruthenium(II) complexes containing the bidentate imidazole-based ligands (MeN 2 H 2 C 3 ) 2 CO L 1 , (MeN 2 H 2 C 3 ) 2 CHOH L 2 and (MeN 2 H 2 C 3 ) 2 CH 2 L 3 (where 1-MeN 2 H 2 C 3 = 1- methylimidazol-2-yl), [Ru(PPh 3 ) 2 H(CO)L 1 ]Cl 1, [Ru(PPh 3 ) 2 H(CO)L 2 ]Cl 2 and [Ru(PPh 3 ) 2 H(CO)L 3 ]Cl 3, were synthesized by the reaction of L 1 –L 3 with [Ru(PPh 3 ) 3 H(Cl)(CO)] in toluene. The complexes were characterised by NMR spectroscopy and the crystal structures of [Ru(PPh 3 ) 2 H(CO)L 1 ]BF 4 4 and [Ru(PPh 3 ) 2 H(CO)L 2 ]OH 5 determined.
