Synthesis of phosphido-bridged dinuclear complexes through sodium reduction of cis-[M{P(C6H11)2 H}2Cl2] (M = Ni or Pd)

Abstract

Reduction of cis-[Ni{P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 H} 2 Cl 2 ] with sodium afforded the dinuclear nickel complex [{Ni[µ-P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 ][P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 H]} 2 ] which, in turn, reacted with CO producing [{Ni[µ-P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 ](CO) 2 } 2 ]. The reduction of cis-[Pd{P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 H} 2 Cl 2 ] occurred in two steps giving first [Pd 2 {µ-P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 }Cl{P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 H} 3 ], then [{Pd[µ-P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 ][P(C 6 H 11 ) 2 H]} 2 ]. The structure of the chloride complex was determined.
