Formation of a novel Re3(µ-ethyne) cluster and the possible involvement of Re[double bond, length as m-dash]Re electrons in the bonding

Abstract

The homoleptic neopentoxide cluster [Re 3 (µ-OCH 2 Bu t ) 3 -(OCH 2 Bu t ) 6 ] reacts with ethyne to give a novel adduct having ethyne bridged perpendicular to one edge of a Re 3 triangle and with substituted alkynes to yield alkenyl clusters and pivaldehyde.
