Inter-laboratory note. Lead-depleted blood for matrix-matched calibration with electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry

Abstract

A method is described for the rapid and simple preparation of a lead-free blood matrix and matrix-matched standard for the determination of lead by ETAAS. Human blood is mixed with four volumes of a solution containing Triton X-100, calcium, magnesium and antifoam silicone polymer emulsion. Lead and calcium are precipitated with oxalic acid, followed by a short centrifugation. The supernatant, five fold diluted hemolysed blood, is free from lead when measured by ETAAS.
