Synthesis and characterization of rhodium complexes containing atropisomeric sulfur ligands. Structure of [{Rh2(µ-L)(CO)3[P(OC6H4But-o)3]}2](H2L = 1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-dithiol)

Abstract

The addition of the atropisomeric racemic sulfur compound 1,1′-binaphthalene-2,2′-dithiol (H2L) to a dichloromethane solution of [{Rh(µ-OMe)(cod)}2](cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) afforded the dithiolate-bridged complexes [{Rh2(µ-L)(cod)2}n](n= 2 1 or 1 2). These reacted with carbon monoxide to give the dinuclear tetracarbonyl complex [Rh2(µ-L)(CO)4]3. The reaction of 3 with PR3 provided the mixed-ligand complexes [{Rh2(µ-L)(CO)2(PR3)2}2](R = Ph 4 or C6H115) and [{Rh2(µ-L)(CO)3(PR3)}2]6[R = P(OC6H4But-o)3]. The crystal structure of 6 was determined by X-ray diffraction.
