Unexpected reactions of pentafluorophenyl boron compounds with η-cyclopentadienyl(benzamidinato)zirconium derivatives

Abstract

The compounds [Zr(η-C₅R₅){η-CPh(NSiMe₃)₂}R′₂](R = H, R′= Me or CH₂Ph; R = Me, R′= Me) reacted with [Ph₃C][B(C₆F₅)₄] giving [{Zr(η-C₅H₅)[η-CPh(NSiMe₃)₂]}₂(µ-Cl)₂][BX(C₆F₅)₃]₂[R = H, X = Me or CH₂Ph; R = Me, X = C₆F₅(crystal structure)]. Treatment of [Zr(η-C₅H₅){η-CPh(NSiMe₃)₂}Me₂] with B(C₆F₅)₃ gave [(C₆F₅){η-(Me₃SiN)₂PhC}(η-C₅ H₅)Zr(µ-Me)B(C₆F₅)₃](crystal structure). The compound [Zr(η-C₅H₅){η-CPh(NSiMe₃)₂}(CH₂Ph)₂] with B(C₆F₅)₃ in benzene or dichloromethane gave [Zr^III(η-C₅H₅){η-CPh(NSiMe₃)₂}L][B(CH₂Ph)(C₆F₅)₃](L = C₆H₆ or CH₂Cl₂).
