Fluorinated fatty acids: new mechanistic probes for desaturases

Abstract

Only (E)-fluoroalkenic products are obtained when racemic 9- and 10-fluoro fatty acids are processed by a Saccharomyces cerevisiaeΔ9 desaturase as determined by 1H- decoupled 19F NMR and GC–MS analysis; no evidence for hydroxylated intermediates was found.
