5,5-Dimethyl-3-phenyl-1-pyrroline 1-oxide undergoes acid-catalysed isomerisation to a 3-hydroxy-1-pyrroline in aqueous solution and base-catalysed isomerisation in non-aqueous solution to a pyrrolidin-2-one.
