Optical absorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic studies of thorium tetrabromide

Abstract

Optical absorption and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopies have been used to investigate the electronic structure of ThBr4 in relation to ThF4 and ThCl4. The same electronic process appears to be responsible for the Th 4f photoelectron ‘shake-up’ satellites and the valence to conduction band transition.
