Experimental determination of second (p, V, T) virial coefficients of xenon and chlorine at elevated temperatures

Abstract

Second (p, V, T) virial coefficients B(T) of xenon and chlorine have been obtained from refractive index measurements over the temperature range 290–1100 K. For both substances B(T) was determined for the first time at T > 650 K. Below 650 K B(T) of xenon is in very good agreement with tabulated values. For chlorine, however, substantial disagreement was found between our values and previously reported measurements of B(T).
