Dalton communications. Synthesis of novel mixed-metal clusters of mercury and osmium; crystal and molecular structures of cis-[Os(CO)4{(µ-Hg)Os3(CO)10(µ-η2-CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh)}2] and [{Os3(CO)10(µ-η2-CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh)}24-Hg)]

Abstract

Reaction of [Os3H2(CO)10] with Hg(C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CPh)2 afforded the novel mixed-metal clusters cis-[Os(CO)4{(µ-Hg)Os3(CO)10(µ-η2-CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh)}2]1 and [{Os3(CO)10(µ-η2-CH[double bond, length half m-dash]CHPh)}24-Hg)]2 in moderate yield, the crystal structures of which have been determined; 1 converts into 2via Hg–Os bond cleavage under ambient conditions.
