Macropolyhedral boron-containing cluster chemistry. The eighteen-vertex monocarbaborane [(Me3CNH2)CB17H18(CN)]

Abstract

The first definitively characterised macropolyhedral carbaborane species, neutral [(ButNH2)CB17H18(CN)], is isolated from the products of the reaction between [anti-B18H22] and ButNC in CH2Cl2; the structure is based on the [anti-B18H22] type of macropolyhedral cluster, with an amine-substituted carbon atom occupying the 9-position in one subcluster.
