Chemistry of µ-η1: η2α,β-butadiynyls: chain extension on C4 polycarbon ligands

Abstract

The binuclear butadiynyl compounds Ru2(CO)6(µ-η1, η2α, β-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CR)(µ-PPh2)(R = But1a or Ph 1b), with one π-coordinated and one free triple bond, synthesised via thermolysis of Ru3(CO)11(PPh2C[triple bond, length half m-dash]C-C[triple bond, length half m-dash]CR), react with NEt2H to generate the novel diethylaminobutatriene complexes Ru2(CO)6[µ-η1, η1-Et2N[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]C[double bond, length half m-dash]C(H)R](µ-PPh2)(R = But2a or Ph 2b) in high yields: the molecular structures of 1a and 2a are determined.
