Steric effects on the solvation of protonated di-tert-butyl ketone and phenyl tert-butyl ketone

Abstract

The anomalously low basicity of two sterically hindered ketones (But2CO and PhCOBut) stems from steric hindrance to the solvation of their protonated forms.
