Potentiometric titration of phenols in non-aqueous polar extract

Abstract

For preconcentration of phenols, the use of some water-soluble or partly water-soluble extractants such as acetone, ethyl methyl ketone, N-methylpyrrolidone, 4-butyrolactone, and n- and tert-butyl alcohols, has been proposed. Regions of system stratification on two liquid phases under salting-out (ammonium sulfate) were represented with triple concentration diagrams. The influence of the water concentration in the extractant phase and the nature of the solvent on the effectiveness of the phenol extraction was studied. The influence of water on a phenol potentiometric titration was studied directly in non-aqueous extracts. A method for the extraction–potentiometric determination of phenol and its nitro-derivatives was developed.
