Conformational preferences of sulfimides

Abstract

The X-ray crystal structures of sulfimides 11, 15 and 16 are reported. Analysis of these and literature data suggests that the conformational preferences of sulfimides of six-membered cyclic sulfides, can be rationalised by attractive and repulsive special gauche effects. Such effects may also affect the conformations of sulfimides of five-membered cyclic sulfides but it is necessary, in addition, to invoke other interactions.
