Adsorption of benzene on the acidic and basic sites of KH β zeolite studied by in situ IR spectroscopy

Abstract

In situ IR studies of benzene adsorbed on several KH β zeolites, where the extent of potassium exchange, K/Al (%), varied from 0 to 88.32%, have been undertaken under different conditions. The bands of adsorbed benzene on KH β zeolites in the range 2050–1700 cm–1 were assigned. KH β zeolite exhibits basicity only when K/Al ⩽ 88.32%, where its basicity is stronger and its acidity weaker. The order of stability of the various adsorbed benzene species on the samples is as follows: O(benzene) > H+(benzene) > K+(benzene) > benzene.
