Iridium–platinum perfluorobenzenethiolato trinuclear complexes: crystal structures of [Ir2Pt(C5Me5)2(µ-SRF)4Cl2](RF= C6F5 or C6F4H-p), syntheses and solution behaviour

Abstract

Reaction of [Ir(C5Me5)(SRF)2](RF= C6F51a or C6F1H-P1b) with K2[PtCl4] gave trinuclear complexes [Ir2Pt(C5Me5)2(µ-SRF)4Cl2](RF= C6F52a or C6F4H-p2b). Complexes 2a and 2b were characterized by single-crystal X-ray determinations. The structures are very similar and show short contact interactions between the platinum and the o-F of the bridging perfluorobenzenethiolate groups. Variable-temperature 19F NMR spectra of solutions of complexes 2a and 2b reveal the coexistence of several conformers without the Pt ⋯o-F short contact found in the solid state.
