Synthesis, structures and reactions of ytterbium(II) alkyls

Abstract

Treatment of Ybl2 with 2 NaCHR2 gave [Yb(CHR2)2(OEt2)2]1 in Et2O, but Yb(CHR2)3Na in n-C6H14{1 was also obtained from 2 KCHR2 and [Yb(OAr)2(OEt2)2]}, while Ybl2 and 2 KCR3 in Et2O gave [{Yb(CR3)(µ-OEt)(OEt2)}2]7; [Yb(CHR2)(OAr)(thf)3] was prepared from [Yb(OAr)2(thf)3] and KCHR2, and [[graphic omitted]R}2] or [[graphic omitted]HR2]6 form 1+ 4 PhCN or 1+ 2 ButCN in Et2O, respectively; 171Yb NMR spectral data confirmed the identity of each of the ytterbium(II) compounds, and single crystal X-ray results are presented for 6 and 7(R = SiMe3, Ar = 2,6-But2-4-Me-C6H2).
