Experimental observation of stable cyanodiazonium ions, NC–N2+

Abstract

The elusive cyanodiazonium ion, NC–N2+, proposed as a transient intermediate in solution, but never directly observed, can be obtained in the gas phase by ionization of a mixture of nitrogen trifluoride and cyanamide, and characterized by collisionally activated dissociation (CAD) mass spectrometry.
