Formation, storage and reactivity of nitrile species during the lean NOx reaction over Cu/ZSM-5 catalysts

Abstract

Aliphatic cyanide species (nitriles) are formed during the selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen monoxide over Cu/ZSM-5 catalysts in the presence of hydrocarbons; these nitriles are stable to > 750 K in the absence of oxygen and they are selectively oxidised to nitrogen and carbon dioxide by dioxygen.
