Determination of bromate and chlorate via reduction with sodium nitrite

Abstract

Bromate and chlorate ions were determined via potentiometric titration with silver nitrate after reduction to bromide and chloride ions, respectively, with sodium nitrite. The precision of the analysis was less than 0.6% in all instances. It is also shown that chlorate ions can be determined in the presence of perchlorate with good precision. These methods made it possible to determine bromide and bromate ions and also chloride and chlorate ions simultaneously.
