Polarographic behaviour and determination of some rare saccharides

Abstract

A polarographic study was performed on series of rare deoxy-D-aldopentoses and deoxy-D-aldohexoses (with the deoxy group in different positions) and the parent common aldoses. Experimental data used for analytical purposes are statistically evaluated and compared with the most frequently used technique for their determination, viz., HPLC. The possibility of complexing carbohydrate in a complex with molybdate ions is pointed out. The d.c.-polarographic determination of sugars as aldimines is suitable as an experimental technique for kinetic measurement, monitoring of syntheses and evaluation of stability.
