Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopic investigations on the interaction of neopentane with acidic zeolites

Abstract

Adsorption of neopentane on faujasite, mordenite and ZSM-5 zeolites has been investigated by UV–VIS spectroscopy. At room temperature, UV–VIS active surface species were detected and assigned to alkenyl-type carbenium ions. Their formation was shown to be influenced by the overall acidity, the ratio of Brønsted to Lewis acidity and the zeolite structure.
