Computer simulation of the adsorption of a fluid mixture in zeolite Y

Abstract

Grand-canonical Monte Carlo simulations have been made of the adsorption of nitrogen, methane and an equimolar mixture of these gases into zeolite Y at ambient temperature and at pressures up to 200 bar. It is shown that methane is adsorbed preferentially, that the degree of separation is almost independent of the pressure over a wide range, and that the separation agrees well with that calculated from ideal adsorbed solution theory.
