Activation parameters and the influence of ionic strength upon the hexacyanoferrate(III)–iodide reaction in some aqueous organic media

Abstract

The rate of reaction between hexacyanoferrate(III) and iodide ions has been studied at several ionic strengths in water–ethanol and water–tert-butyl alcohol mixtures of constant relative permittivity. The results were fitted to the Brønsted–Pitzer electrostatic term equation. Kinetic data have also been determined for several mole fractions of aqueous ethanol solutions at different temperatures. These results have been explained taking into account the influence of structural changes in water–EtOH solutions.
