Attraction among macroions in electrolytes: a semianalytical demonstration

Abstract

A semianalytical solution of the linearized symmetrized Poisson–Boltzmann equation has been obtained for a binary mixture of hard-sphere Z-valent ions and monovalent point counterions. It is shown that at high temperatures (i.e. at low values of X0Z2, where X0 is the Bjerrum parameter), macroion correlations are not described by a single Debye exponent and an attraction among macroions is evident.
