Preparation and crystal structure of a seven-co-ordinated oxotungsten(IV) complex of 2,2′:6′,2″:6″,2‴-quaterpyridine

Abstract

The reaction of [WOCl2(PMe2Ph)3] with 2,2′:6′,2″:6″,2‴-quaterpyridine (L) in ethanol gave [WO(PMe2Ph)2L]2+ isolated as a BPh4 salt. X-Ray diffraction analysis revealed that the complex cation adopts a distorted pentagonal-bipyramidal structure with the W[triple bond, length as m-dash]O distance being 1.696(9)Å. The spectroscopic properties and electrochemistry of this tungsten complex have been investigated.
