Rare examples of five-co-ordinate manganese(II) complexes containing monodentate ligands. Crystal structures of [MnBr2(PEt3)] and [Mnl2(PMeEt2)], and their reaction with dioxygen

Abstract

The five-co-ordinate trigonal-bipyramidal complexes [MnBr2(PEt3)] and [Mnl2(PMeEt2)] have been prepared and their crystal structures determined. Both complexes contain polymeric (MnX2)n chains with a single phosphine co-ordinated at each trigonal-bipyramidal centre. The complexes absorb one mole of O2 per mole of complex in diethyl ether solution at –30 °C.
