Dynamic and static lattice effects in tetrachloroferrate(II) salts: their influence upon Mössbauer quadrupole splittings

Abstract

Spectroscopic data, particularly 57Fe Mössbauer, and X-ray powder diffraction data are presented for a series of salts [NR4]2[FeCl4] and for doped materials of [NMe4]2[FeCl4] and [NMe4]2[CoCl4] in different ratios. The effect of the cation on the electronic environment of the iron is discussed in terms of direct charge effects and lattice dynamics.
