On the reactions of [RuCl2(PPh3)3] with thia crown ethers: molecular structures of [RuCl2(PPh3)([9]aneS3)]([9]aneS3= 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane) and [RuCl(PPh3)([14]aneS4)]ClO4([14]aneS4= 1,4,8,11-tetrathiacyclotetradecane)

Abstract

The reaction of [RuCl2(PPh3)3] with 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane ([9]aneS3) gives the neutral complex [RuCl2(PPh3)([9]aneS3)] while the same complex with 1,4,8,11-tetrathiacyclotetradecane ([14]aneS4) followed by chloride–perchlorate metathesis provides the salt cis-[RuCl(PPh3)([14]aneS4)]ClO4. The structures of both complexes have been determined by X-ray crystallography.
