Extraction and spectrophotometric determination of gallium(III), indium(III) and thallium(III) in aluminium and aluminium alloys

Abstract

A method is described for the solvent extraction and subsequent determination of gallium(III), indium(III) and thallium(III) in standard aluminium and aluminium alloys by spectrophotometry or inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. Triphenylphosphine oxide in toluene provides quantitative extraction of gallium, indium and thallium from halide media. The average recoveries are >99.0%. Log–log plots were used to ascertain probable extractable species.
