Separation of chromium and nickel using extraction chromatography. Application to the analysis of alloys

Abstract

Extraction chromatography using Kel-F as support and acetylacetone (AA) as stationary phase has been employed to achieve the chemical separation of Cr and Ni. Critical studies were made on several factors affecting the distribution of each metal, such as the retention efficiency at 25 and 80 °C and the pH of the solution. It was observed that the concentration of AA in CHCl3 played an important role in the chromatographic procedure. Application of the procedure to the determination of Ni in alloys is reported.
